Metal chains, buckles and other decorative details can make a simple pair of sandals feel more polished. However, these elements may lose their finish, collect residue or damage the surrounding material when cleaned incorrectly.
A careful routine can help preserve both the decoration and the sandal itself.
Check Every Material First
Embellished sandals often combine several materials, such as:
- Metal or coated decorative hardware
- PU, microfiber or leather uppers
- Padded footbeds
- Rubber or TPR outsoles
- Adhesives holding the components together
A cleaning method that works on the outsole may damage the upper or metal finish. Check the product’s care information before applying any cleaner.
When testing a new product, use a small amount on a concealed area first.
Remove Dust with a Dry Cloth
Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust from the straps and decorative details. A small, soft brush can help clean narrow spaces between chain links or around buckles.
Avoid stiff brushes and abrasive cloths. These may scratch polished hardware or wear away a decorative coating.

Allow skincare products to absorb before putting on your sandals. If residue appears, wipe it away promptly with a soft cloth instead of allowing it to build up around the decoration.

Store Them Without Pressure

Before storing your sandals:
